The god of the sky; Zeus, and a nymph; Metis are Athena’s parents. Athena is the Goddess of Wisdom and Warfare. When Zeus found out that Metis was pregnant with a child he was afraid that the child would be more powerful than him, so to prevent the child from being born he turns Metis into a moth and swallowed her. Later on, Zeus felt a pain in his head and had Hephaestus cut his head open. Athena came out of his head fully clothed in battle armor.
Zeus, Athena's father.
Athena; the goddess of Wisdom and Warfare made the flute to mimic the wailing of the Gorgon sisters whom all shared one eye. The Gorgon sisters were wailing because Medusa; the Gorgon with snakes for hair, was killed by Perseus. Athena didn’t like the way she looked when she played the flute so she threw it out and put a curse on it.
Athena, the Goddess of Wisdom and Warfare.
Athena; the goddess of Wisdom and Warfare, turned Arachnid; the mortal, into a spider after Arachnid was bragging of her web spinning skills.
Athena; the goddess of Wisdom and Warfare, turned Medusa; a used-to-be beautiful girl, into what she is because of what Medusa and Poseidon did in Athena’s temple. Medusa got pregnant in Athena’s temple with Poseidon’s child; this offended Athena because her temple was a sacred place.
The symbols of Athena; the Goddess of Wisdom and Warfare, include the spear, distaff and the aegis. A spear is a long weapon used for throwing. A distaff is a staff that has a cleft end for holding wood. An aegis is a shield with the head of a gorgon in the middle of it, particularly used by Athena or Zeus.
This is Athena's shield, the head represents medusa's head.
Athena had to beg her father Zeus to help the mortal Odysseus on his journey. Athena wanted to help Odysseus because she felt bad for him, and wanted to help him return to his family. In Odysseus’s journey he was trapped in the grasp of Calypso; a sea nymph in the Ogygia Sea in this situation Athena helped him escape.
Athena and her brother Ares had a rivalry because Athena was the Goddess of Wisdom and Warfare and Ares was the God of Wisdom and Warfare. Their dad was Zeus Athena’s mom was Metis, Ares’ mom was Hera. They both preferred completely different parts of the warfare. Athena preferred peace, and she cared more for the intellectual part of warfare. Ares preferred the bloodshed of wars. That was a main part of their rivalry.
Athena blinded the prophet Tiresias when he accidentally saw her bathing in the creek. This was a bad thing because Athena’s chastity was a thing she was famous for. Athena tried to reverse the curse later on because she had felt bed for Tiresias, but she was incapable of doing so.
An Owl, Athena's scared animal.
Athena’s sacred animal is the owl, this is because Athena is the Goddess of Wisdom andWarfare, and the owl is an animal of wisdom.
Athena’s sacred tree is the olive tree. This is because when Athens was discovered she and Poseidon; the God of water, were fighting over whom it would be named after. The God or Goddess to give Athens the most sacred gift, it would be named after. Poseidon gave Athens a fountain that sprayed water from the sea. Athena gave Athens an olive tree. Athena ultimately got the naming rights to Athens and the olive tree became her sacred tree.
Madison Gross' Athena Dramatic Writing
I chose for my glitter text to be the color red to represent blood, because Athena is the Goddess of Wisdom and Warfare. My music represents both Athena's Wisdom and her Warfare.
